HistoryTalks with Jody Allen

  • Brock Commons Truist Theater – RMC campus 304 Henry St. Ashland, VA 23005 United States (map)

Join us for a book talk and signing with Jody Lynn Allen. Her book Roses in December - Black Life in Hanover County from Civil War to Civil Rights has just been published. Allen is College of William and Mary Associate Professor of History, and Robert Francis Engs Director, The Lemon Project: A Journey of Reconciliation, and an Ashland resident.

The book provides an unprecedented look at Hanover’s Black community after a 1902 revision to the Virginia Constitution effectively disfranchised Black men who had gained the right to vote in 1870.

This is appropriate for middle school readers and above.

A limited number of books will be available for purchase on Sunday. Free and open to the public.
