Finding Lockwood – A Forgotten Hanover Landmark. Built in the early 1800s, Lockwood is the Hanover County farmhouse where Robert E. Lee spent four days in May 1864 prior to the Battle of Cold Harbor. It was situated on land purchased by the Richmond newspapers where a new production plant was planned. Finding no use for the house, publisher J. Stewart Bryan agreed to help a Richmond couple dismantle the house and move it to a site 12 miles away. Learn Lockwood’s history and its interesting present.
