C. Hunter Jones (1918 - 2001)
C. Hunter Jones, a native Ashlander, gave generously of his time and talents to improve the lives of others.
He served on the Ashland Town Council for 11 terms (22 years), including terms as Mayor and Vice-Mayor.
As PTA President, he was a proponent of adding a 12th grade and consolidating high schools to improve education for all students in Hanover County.
He was a founder and the first president of Hanover Country Club and also one of the original developers of Country Club Hills.
He was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from his alma mater Randolph-Macon College, for his service as adjunct professor for 29 years and Trustee for 19 years.
He was instrumental in starting the Patrick Henry YMCA with the hope that children from all walks of life would have a place for recreation and fellowship.
He led his CPA profession as President of the Virginia Society of CPAs and also as President of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy which regulates CPA ethics and standards across the United States.
