Join the Ashland Museum for a history and nature tour of the Maroon communities in the Great Dismal Swamp on Saturday, March 2, 2019. A number of freed and escaped slaves formed a communities in the marshlands of the Great Dismal Swamp. We will join our guide at the Great Dismal Swamp for a tour lasting about 4 hours.
We will meet at the Ashland Museum at 6:45 am and depart at 7:00 am by van for the Great Dismal Swamp. The tour will make several stops in the Great Dismal Swamp and does require some walking. We will make a lunch stop (purchased on your own) or you can bring a lunch. We will be back at the Ashland Museum about 4:00 pm.
Cost: $60 for members, $75 for non-members. Registration and payment in advance is required. Tickets are not refundable. Tour will be held rain or shine. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes since we’ll be walking on uneven ground and paths.
